TANDEM is a quiet reflection of how visual artists Maria Glyka and Vassilis Vlastaras live and work. It’s about the movement between two practices, two people, and the shared but nonlinear decisions they have taken as partners, parents, and artists. They don’t aim to merge into one voice. Rather, their practices run parallel - sometimes close, sometimes apart - but always aware of each other.

Their long-standing connection with Jim Hobbs and Kim Kish has been a constant reference in their lives and artistic practices. Over many years of dialogue and shared projects, their presence has remained a point of connection and expansion. Their friendship with Jim and Kim in St Leonard’s, their generosity and openness, became part of a yearly rhythm. Through them, they came to know Patrick Jones and the Project 78 community. The understanding was already there: that their work is shaped by life, by the blur between the studio and the kitchen table, by the interruptions, and by the repetitions that define care and time.

In TANDEM, they each present a body of artworks that speak from their individual spaces but also a shared undertone - a quiet pulse that links them. They have lived with each other’s practices for years, not in theory but in reality. That influence is not direct, but it is deeply felt. They see this exhibition as a snapshot - one moment in an ongoing exchange, a way of marking the flow of thought and emotion that continues between them.
